Inclusive Education
Breaking down barriers so persons with disabilities can travel freely, safely, and independently across the Western Cape.
Accessible public transport is not a luxury โ itโs a basic right. Yet across the province, thousands of people with disabilities are excluded from opportunities simply because transport systems do not meet their needs. From unreliable Dial-A-Ride services to inaccessible taxis, buses and trains, mobility remains one of the greatest challenges to inclusion.
Despite progress in policy, many public transport systems still fail to consider persons with disabilities:
Vehicles that are not wheelchair-friendly
Lack of audio or visual aids for people with sensory impairments
Poorly trained staff or service providers
Long waiting lists for specialist services like Dial-A-Ride
The result? Missed work opportunities, isolation from community life, and a cycle of inequality.
Through this campaign, WCND and our member organisations are calling for:
Accessible buses, taxis and trains designed with universal access in mind
Expansion and proper resourcing of specialist services such as Dial-A-Ride
Inclusive consultation with persons with disabilities when planning transport systems
Stronger accountability from government and service providers
